“So, here’s what we can do.”

“Yeah?”

“We can go inside so I can make you a drink and we can keep talking - or we can stay out here.”

“What’s out here?”

He took a step away from the window and towards her. “A quick escape.”

“You want to leave?” She was shocked and didn’t move as he slowly brushed past her to step down the rickety stairs of the fire escape.

He turned to look up at her, flashing that grin that haunted her dreams even when she managed to stop thinkging about it every waking moment. “You didn’t want to stay, did you?” He asked like he already knew the answer. Which he apparently did, because she reached out her hand to let him lead her down to the street.
