I figured out why disregarding romione upsets me.

It’s because the entire premise of it is based upon the fact that for the first time ever, someone chose him. A kid who grew up with 6 siblings all of which were more clever or smarter or successful. A kid whose best friend was the most famous person in their world. A kid who was never recognized for anything other than the people he was surrounded by.

And in the end, it was the person he loved who chose him.

Despite the fact that Viktor, and Harry, and whoever else seemed more appealing to the world. Despite the fact that they were better on paper.
Despite the fact that even many of our fandom sees this character as a joke.

And unlike most underdogs in stories, he is never given a chance.

He never rises up and defeats the villain. He is never revealed to be the ‘REAL’ hero like Neville Longbottom so often is. He doesn’t have that It’s Up To You, Ron moment.

But it doesn’t matter.

And Hermione sees that.

It’s that concept of being uniquely special to the right person when everyone else, the entire world even, sees you as remarkably average.

You don’t have to be a hero or the boy who lived or anything else to them because you are enough and they choose you.

This is so beautiful!

Imma gonna disagree with one itty bitty point here…..

Ron is a Hero, even if he doesn’t think he is. Why?

Because he did return, got curious because he was watching Harry, and dove into a bloody cold pond to save Danger Ponce from a reckless decision for wearing the bloody locket while diving into the pond to get the Sword of Gryffindor.

Then he had the boulders known as bollocks to take that sword, face down his worst nightmares, including in front of his Best Mate, and destroyed the locket, even after the damn thing tortured him the worst.

If Ron doesn’t dive into the Pond to save Danger Ponce, that’s it. Hermione wakes in the morning and Harry is nowhere to be found and then everyone’s ass is in a sling.

No Harry and you have the nightmare that was in Stop All the Clocks.

Good thing Ron was there to save Danger Ponce. *grin*

And you know what?

Hermione is mad as fire and secretly happy that he’s back. My HC is that it’s the first night in 2 months where she can actually sleep - because she knows that Ron is safe.

But then Harry doesn’t notice because it’s not important to the narrative.
